Cup International 2022

Saturday September 24, 2022: Thus, takes place the international football tournament called “CUP INTERNATIONAL” of the city of Würzburg. The community of the charming city was able to enjoy a magnificent football celebration, worthy of the ethnic diversity it encompasses, starting from the South American coasts through the Maghreb, sub-Saharan Africa to the Middle East. This event marked the opening of the “Global Würzburg” (GLOW) formerly called “Interkultureller Herst”; series of information, socio-cultural and recreational activities organized by the Council for Foreigners and Integration of the city (Ausländer-und Integrationsbeirat der Stadt Würzburg or AIW).

The 2022 edition of this tournament was innovative in its organization because it was entirely entrusted to “Initiative Africa Würzburg” (IAW e.V.), this African Association which advocates the development of the Sub-Sahelian African community.

From 9 am to 5 pm, the various participants took part in this competition which took place in the sports hall of the Wolffskeel secondary school, among which: FC Reschwani ; Eritsreischer Verein Würzburg und Umgebung e. V; Alfurat; Union Würzburg; Sportfreunde; Königreich Marokko; Kurdistan; Desperate e. V; FairPlay e. V and IAW e. V. The Tournament began with the charming welcome speech and opening of the championship by Timea Deme Deže, Deputy AIW Chair.

Two groups for qualifying. The semi-finals were contested between FC Reschwani; Alfurat; Kurdistan; and IAW e. V. The ten participating teams and their fans benefited from a gastronomic offer and high-quality care that met all the requirements of the time.

Following the second and determining part of this championship, with players like an audience on the one hand under pressure, on the other hand in euphoria, it emerged the three clubs which had received a place of honor on the podium. The awarding of the prizes was carried out initially by Serpil Güçlü Adolph, 1st representative of the AIW Board who gave the players of the Kurdistan team bronze medals for their 3rd place in this tournament. In 2nd place was IAW e. V who left with silver medals for his players presented by Timea Deme Deže, 2nd representative of the AIW Board, as well as a silver trophy, presented by the Chief Police Director of the Würzburg City Police Inspectorate Matthias Weber. The brave Alfurat, the Syrian pride, will receive gold medals from the 3rd representative of the AIW board, Axelle Degla, for their undeniably deserved first place in this tournament. The team will then leave with the splendid International Cup in Gold awarded once again by Matthias Weber. The latter also awarded the trophy of Top Scorer of this tournament to Noureldin Basoun of the Alfurat team and holder of 7 goals.
